Who wouldn't love a chance to play Jane Austen on stage? I had that delighful opportunity last weekend in Seattle, and will be giving a repeat performance on Saturday Sept. 8 at the Pasadena Public Library as part of the JASNA-SW special event "Jane Austen versus the Victorians". Do join us!
The morning kicks off with a talk entitled "Jane Austen and the Victorians Duke it Out" by Charles Lynn Batten, literary critic and UCLA Professor Emeritus.
A staged reading of the comedy playlet "You Are Passionate, Jane" by Diana Birchall will follow, featuring Diana as Charlotte Brontë and myself as Jane. In the play, Jane Austen is Gatekeeper in Heaven, deciding which other literary figures will be allowed to ascend. Charlotte Brontë is brought before her, and the two women are temperamental opposites. When Charlotte's passionate life and works come under scrutiny (the title quote refers to Jane Eyre), the literary sparks fly--upward!

The two-day fest will be held on Chapman University's beautiful campus, featuring great books, discussion panels with bestselling authors, live entertainment, and delicious food. Come join in the fun! More details here.
And stay tuned for my next book, The Missing Manuscript of Jane Austen, due out on New Year's Eve.
